This class will discuss the difference between “ethical” and “legal”. We will illustrate federal and state laws that have an impact on ethics, list sources available for help in making ethical decisions, give examples of unethical dealings in the early days of this country. We will describe the origins of the National Association of REALTORS® Code of Ethics, identify the three sections of the REALTOR® Code of Ethics and explain the relationship between the Articles and the Standards of Practice. We will review how the REALTOR® Code of Ethics is enforced, name the articles of the REALTOR® Code of Ethics most often cited, comment on some of the societal changes that affect the real estate business today, and introduce concepts of consumerism.
